Community Service Guidelines

  • Students who receive any institutional funds from Belmont Abbey College are required to complete community service each semester. Students who fail to complete 10 hours of community service per semester will forfeit their Belmont Abbey institutional funds.
  • Ten hours of community service must be completed each semester. Hours completed beyond the 10 hour requirement during the Fall Semester will roll over into the following Spring Semester. Hours beyond the 10 hour requirement during the Spring Semester will not roll over into the following Fall Semester.
  • Service hours completed individually will fulfill the requirement only when they meet the following guidelines:
  • Hours are completed in Gaston or Mecklenburg County .
  • Hours are turned into Campus Ministry by the last day of classes.
  • Hours are completed at a nonprofit organization (yard work, babysitting, etc. for neighbors or friends does not count)
  • Each semester Campus Ministry offers a variety of service projects. Please check your Abbey email regularly to learn about upcoming activities.
  • Students may receive community service credit for certain projects completed on campus but students must seek prior approval from Campus Ministry.
  • Community Service Waivers: Partial or full waivers are only given for extreme/emergency situations. If a student feels that their hours need to be waived they must contact Campus Ministry as soon as possible.
