Orientation FAQ
Where should I go when I get to campus?
All students and their families must check into the Science Building when they first arrive on campus. You will check-in here and receive your Parking decal (if applicable), Student ID, and packets of information. You must clear that you have checked in at the Science Building before you will be permitted to move into the Residence Halls. Financial Aid and the business office will also be available at this time.
Does Orientation cost anything?
Orientation does not cost anything for the students or parents attending. In fact, during Orientation, we even supply all of your meals on campus in our Abbott Walter Coggins, OSB Student Commons. Make sure to pick up your tickets at check-in.
When is Orientation?
The actual Orientation Program begins at 1:00pm on Friday, August 19th, 2011. However, check-in and move-in begin at 8:00 am that same day. Make sure to get there early enough to get moved in before the Orientation program starts. For Students, Orientation is packed full of events and activities and goes until Monday, August 22nd, 2011. For Parents and Families, Family Orientation is on Friday following the Welcome Ceremony.
I'm a transfer is Orientation required?
It is particularly important for students transferring into the Abbey to attend Orientation because it is during Orientation that you will learn about our heritage, history and identity that is unique to Belmont Abbey College. Even though you have attended a different college, there is a lot of information that you will receive that is BAC specific. You will learn what it means to be a Belmont Abbey College Student and what it means to be part of our family.
I'm a Commuter, do I need to go to everything during Orientation?
The Orientation program is for all traditional students and is focused on assisting you in becoming a Belmont Abbey College student. Whether you live on campus or commute this event is for all students. The programs can be even more important for commuters. Not only do you receive valuable information about the college, but you will also have the opportunity to interact with your fellow classmate, as well as, faculty, staff & monks of Belmont Abbey College. Commuter students can also get pertinent information on getting involved on campus and about all of the services we offer to our students.
As a parent, how long do I need to plan to be at the Abbey?
For parents/guardians that attend Orientation, we ask that you arrive with your student on Friday and sessions begin following the Welcome Ceremony. Parents will have sessions Friday afternoon and into the evening. There is a Parents Reception Friday evening. This reception is casual, so there is no reason to leave and get dressed up. During this reception you will be able to mingle and meet members of the BAC Faculty, Staff and Monastic Community on a 1-on-1 setting.
For travel arrangements, when do you suggest getting into North Carolina?
Because check-in and move-in is from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, on Friday, August 19th, 2011, you may want to consider traveling to campus the night before and staying in a hotel if you are coming from a great distance. We suggest that you arrive as early as possible to get time to settle in before sessions start at 1:00 pm.. Remember, there is always going to be that last minute shopping trip that is inevitable. Luckily there is a Wal-Mart, Lowes, and a grocery store, all within a half mile from school.
Do you offer any deals with local hotels?
There are plenty of local hotels that will offer a discount if you tell them you are with the Abbey. In fact, there is a Hampton Inn right across the street from campus that gives a generous discount.
