Former BAC President, Bradley Institute Director to Give Talk in Chapel Hill

BELMONT, NC --- What does the future hold for Catholic ideas in today’s culture? That’s the topic former Belmont Abbey College President Dr. Robert Preston will tackle at The Catholic Community of St. Thomas More this month.

Belmont Abbey College’s Dr. Robert Preston will be the featured speaker on Sunday, March 26, 2006 at 4:00 PM at The Catholic Community of St. Thomas More in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Preston will present his talk, “Catholic Faith in a Protestant Culture," as part of The Catholic Community of St. Thomas More’s Faith and Culture lecture series.

An alum of Belmont Abbey College, Preston has spent over half a century in the field of higher education. A native of Richmond, Virginia, Preston is a philosopher at heart and has spent most of his career teaching in the classroom before becoming President of his alma mater in 1995. A 1953 graduate, Preston also earned a master’s and doctorate in philosophy from the Catholic University of America. He went on to study at Harvard University’s Institute for Education Management and Carnegie-Mellon University’s College Management Institute. He has held numerous executive positions throughout his career, including senior vice president and provost at Illinois Benedictine College and as president of Sacred Heart University. The creation of the Bradley Institute for the Study of Christian Culture at Belmont Abbey College has been just one of his many career achievements.
The Bradley Institute for the Study of Christian Culture at Belmont Abbey College was founded Preston in 1996. Preston, who currently serves as the Institute’s director, had also served Belmont Abbey College as its 13th president for six years until his retirement in 2001.
The Bradley Institute provides opportunities for business executives, career professionals and clergy to examine relevant ethical, theological and philosophical topics within the context of their modern lives. Program topics range from business, legal and medical ethics to history and philosophy.
The Institute is named for The Reverend John P. Bradley, former president of Belmont Abbey College and former CEO and chairman of the board of Good Will Publishers of Charlotte, North Carolina. The Bradley Institute, in cooperation with the Ingersoll Foundation, presents the annual Ingersoll Prize.
