Hitting the College Books Early Hundreds of Middle School Students Find Out What College Life Is All About on Catholic Schools Day

BELMONT, NC --- Still too young to drive and unable to register to vote – hundreds of 8 th graders from both North and South Carolina will get the chance to find out what life on a college campus is really like.

Belmont Abbey College will celebrate its 5th Annual Catholic Schools Day Celebration on April 7, 2006 beginning at 8:45 AM in the Abbey Basilica at Belmont Abbey College.

Students from Holy Trinity Catholic Middle School ( Charlotte, NC); Sacred Heart Catholic School ( Salisbury, NC); St. Anne School ( Sumter, SC); St. Michael’s School, ( Gastonia, NC); and St. Ann’s School ( Rock Hill, SC) will all be treated to a day of tours, athletics, a cookout and Q&A at one of the only private, Catholic liberal arts college in the southeast.

Each year, the College tries to reach out to the younger members of the community and prepare them for the transition into high school and ultimately college.

The visit will include Mass in the Basilica, a brief history of the College, discussion on student life and Abbey athletics. The day also includes a cookout at lunch where students can mingle and talk about their experiences.
