NASCAR Legend, Belmont Abbey College Supporter to Be Inducted in Hall of Fame Lowe’s Motor Speedway President Humpy Wheeler Among Honorees for 2006

BELMONT, NC --- H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, a Belmont Abbey prep school graduate and a current member of the College’s Board of Trustees, will soon go down in history as one of the most noteworthy racing pioneers.

The Lowe's Motor Speedway president will be inducted in the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in Talladega, Alabama on April 27, 2006.

Wheeler, a legendary promoter of NASCAR in the Charlotte area, will join seven-time Winston Cup champion Dale Earnhardt, driver Harry Gant, car owner Jack Roush and female racing legend Janet Guthrie as the museum’s 2006 honorees.

Wheeler, who has served on Belmont Abbey College’s Board of Trustees since 1996, had spent his youth in the Gaston County town of Belmont. He is currently celebrating his 30th anniversary at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Regarded as one of the sport's most innovative and creative thinkers, Wheeler has passed his promoter's mindset down to another generation of track operators who've worked for him and now work alongside of him at other tracks.
