Stephen Miss Named Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Coach of the Year

BELMONT, NC (March 7, 2008)- Belmont Abbey men's basketball coach Stephen Miss was named the 2007-08 Conference Carolinas Men's Basketball Coach of the Year, according to a vote of the league's head coaches.

Miss, in his first year as the head coach at Belmont Abbey, led the Crusaders to a 16-12 record overall and a 14-6 mark in Conference Carolinas games. It was the Crusaders first winning season since the 2003-04 campaign and they finished tied for third in the league standings after picked to finish last in the preseason poll. The 16 wins are the most at the Abbey since the 2003-04 season when the Crusaders finished 19-10, and the 14 conference wins are the most since the 2002-03 season when they posted 15 league victories. 

He is the second coach in Conference history to be named Coach of the Year in his first year as a head coach, joining Ron Lievense of Barton, who earned the honor in 1997 in his first year at the helm.
