Assistant or Associate Professor of Education
The Department of Education invites accomplished, motivated, and energetic candidates to apply for either of two tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate professor to begin August 1, 2012. The successful candidate is expected to be an exemplary educator who will contribute to a new master’s-level program in Elementary Education with an emphasis on action research. The successful candidate will demonstrate that he or she has the skills, attitudes, and stable disposition of character to support the ideals of the Catholic and Benedictine identity of the College while fostering the development of mind, body, and spirit in our students, our staff, and the greater community. The position involves teaching six courses per year, in addition to mentoring graduate students in action research, analysis of results, and writing for publication. Responsibilities include modeling effective teaching practices, academic advisement, and on-going college/community service. Faculty will work in a collegial atmosphere to build and maintain a successful graduate program, with most courses being taught in the evenings and on weekends. Specialization in a core content area desired but not required. The qualified candidate will have (1) an earned doctorate; (2) a minimum of five years of teaching experience; (3) a strong publication record; and (4) effective interpersonal communication skills.
Located ten minutes west of Charlotte, North Carolina, Belmont Abbey College is a Catholic, Benedictine school that educates a diverse student body in the liberal arts and sciences. The College, which is more than 130 years old, is known for its dedicated faculty, their excellent teaching, the personal attention that students receive, and a friendly atmosphere both inside and outside of the classroom.
