Developing the QEP
SACS recently adopted new accreditation standards called The Principles of Accreditation. One of the new requirements of the Principles is for institutions to develop a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The QEP is a carefully designed and focused college-wide initiative that is related to enhancing student learning. While many aspects of re-accreditation focus on past and present initiatives, the QEP is a “forward-looking” endeavor that converts the re-accreditation process into an on-going activity rather than an episodic event that takes place every 10 years.
At Belmont Abbey College , the QEP will be an opportunity to enhance the quality of our education by focusing on an issue that we consider important to improving student learning. Some examples of QEP topics of other institutions include:
- Enhancing collaborative learning
- Strengthening oral and written competencies
- Improving citizenship and leadership skills
- The development of a faculty learning resource center
- Strengthening general studies curriculum
Other examples of QEP topics is provided here (PDF).

The first step in the development of a QEP at Belmont Abbey College is to identify potential QEP topics. Due to the fact that SACS requires broad based involvement of the institution in the development of the QEP we will be soliciting ideas for a topic from students, faculty, staff, alumni, and board members.
You may submit your ideas for a QEP topic by completing the form provided below.
