BELMONT, NC --- Belmont Abbey College will celebrate the new school year and officially welcome students back to campus with its annual Presidents’ Ball Friday, September 9, 2005 at 8:00 PM in the Abbot Walter Coggins Student Commons, Belmont Abbey College.

The black-tie, by-invitation-only affair will be attended by the Abbey’s student body, monastery, faculty, and staff. The Presidents’ Ball is the first major event each academic year at the Abbey and is planned by the President’s Office and the Office of Student Life.

“The Presidents’ Ball has become a tradition at the Abbey,” says Karen Van Norman, dean of Student Life. “It’s an event for the students to celebrate a new school year and provide them with the opportunity to get to know one another and members of the College community better. It has most certainly become something they look forward to each year.”

Thierfelder, the Abbey’s 20 th president, will celebrate the beginning of his second year at the College. He succeeded College Chancellor, Abbot Placid Solari, O.S.B., who served as the Abbey’s interim president in 2003.

Thierfelder will co-host the annual affair with Abbey senior, Stefanie Whorton, president of the Student Government Association. Thomas Plecnik is the former President of SGA.
