Honors Fellowship

The Honors Fellowship is awarded to students who are fortunate enough to be accepted into the Honors Institute of Belmont Abbey College. Inspired by Pope John Paul II and great Catholic educators, the Honors Institute is a four-year educational program which provides a truly liberal education through close analysis, clear exposition, and friendly discussion of great texts (Christian, classical, and modern). Prominent in this endeavor are the works of great theologians, spiritual writers, philosophers, poets, scientists, and master scholars. In a unique series of courses, seminars, and guided independent study, students learn to listen to authors, teachers and each other with what The Rule of St. Benedict calls “the ear of your heart.”

Eligibility: Minimum non-weighted high school grade point average of 3.7 or higher and a combined SAT score of 1200 for Math and Critical Reading sections (with a minimum Critical Reading score of 600). Students must reside on campus.

Duration: Renewable for up to four years. Students must be full-time and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA.

Deadlines: Applications must be submitted by:

Felix Hintemeyer Catholic Leadership Award

The Hintemeyer program is designed to foster the leadership potential of a select group of Catholic men and women. The program requires exemplary character; serious commitment to the truth and life of Catholicism; exceptionally strong self-motivation, initiative, and creativity; academic diligence and accomplishment; and employment of these qualities and abilities in the service of others.

Throughout their four years in the program, Hintemeyer scholars strive to grow together in faith, virtue, and knowledge, and to discern through reflection and practice the nature of authentic Catholic leadership. Central to each participant's experience will be seminars on a variety of leadership and faith topics, communal prayer and participation in the sacraments, and regular student-generated service and leadership activities on and off campus, culminating junior year in a large-scale project of the student's own design.

Eligibility: Minimum non-weighted grade point average of 3.5 or higher and a combined Critical Reading and Math SAT or ACT score of 1200. (For transfer students: A minimum 3.9 GPA and 24 credits.) The applicant must be an active Catholic leader to be eligible. A separate application and essay are required. (See application for further instructions.)

If your GPA or test scores are below the stated minimum, but you feel that those numbers do not accurately reflect your academic ability, you may contact program director Patrick Ford directly at 704-461-6545 or patrickford@bac.edu. Exceptions will be extremely rare and made according to director’s judgment only. Do not contact Admissions with questions on this issue.

Duration: Renewable for up to four years. Students must be full-time and maintain at least a 3.25 GPA.
